CONCEPT
In one of the worlds largest ski resort (Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Fieberbrunn-Leogang) thousands of users daily have to navigate safely and comfortably through a mostly unknown alpine environment of slopes, connecting paths and countless cable cars. As part of the international design competition for an innovative piste guidance system, the challenge was stated: How should an all-encompassing piste guidance system with the highest safety and orientation standards be designed? How does state-of-the-art visitor guidance function in a ski tourism destination?
The design competition was won by motasdesign, were I was part until the end of the concept phase. Within the framework of the project I was developing an internationally understandable set of icons, evolving a concept for the governmental mandatory safety regulations and designing the draft of the ski lift portals.

How can regulations and restrictions be transformed into positive messages and the benefits made visible to the audience? How can the huge amount of signs be reduced to the minimum while still being compliant with regulations by law? These questions had to be addressed in the safety concept for the piste guidance system in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The result is a concept based on the principle of storytelling. Restrictions were reformulated into positive messages,  which were implemented under the theme "For your safety". For clarification in print, web and on panels illustrations are created which are fun to discover while waiting in the queue.
In addition, a separate set of pictograms has been developed for the signal-ethical communication of information on all media. Additionally the pictograms have been adapted for the different sizes of images.
